Halal buffet restaurant Birmingham

The "Shahi Masala Buffet Restaurant" in Birmingham, England, is a well-known all-you-can-eat restaurant that stands out for its impressive variety of international dishes and is considered one of the most popular halal buffets in the city. It offers a unique blend of Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, and Italian cuisine, combining both traditional and modern elements. The restaurant is housed in an imposing building that used to be a pub and has become a popular destination for families, groups of friends, and food enthusiasts looking to enjoy a wide range of flavors in a relaxed environment. With over 60 dishes, all HMC certified, it particularly appeals to those who value halal options.

International cuisine all you can eat

The cuisine at "Shahi Masala" is a true feast for the senses, featuring live cooking stations that make the experience even more authentic. Particularly popular are the "Lamb Chops," which are freshly grilled and served with a spicy marinade, appreciated for their intense flavor. Another highlight is the "Chicken Tikka Masala," a creamy dish with tender chicken that represents Indian cuisine in all its glory. For lovers of Italian cuisine, there is freshly prepared pasta offered with various sauces, while the Chinese selection impresses with stir-fry prepared directly in front of the guests, featuring crisp vegetables and spicy flavors. The dessert station is another highlight, featuring a chocolate fountain that coats fresh fruits or marshmallows, along with traditional Indian sweets like "Gulab Jamun," which delight with their sweet, syrup-soaked texture. Unlimited soft drinks and mango lassi are also part of the offering, rounding out the buffet experience.

Indian and Italian dishes

The ambiance of the restaurant is modern and functional, with a touch of elegance enhanced by the historical structure of the building. The interior is spaciously designed, featuring clean lines and an open layout that accommodates larger groups. The live cooking stations are a central part of the design, creating a vibrant atmosphere where guests feel part of the culinary process. There is also a separate area for private events, suitable for celebrations such as weddings or birthdays. The establishment is family-friendly, with high chairs and ample space to welcome children, making it a popular choice for groups of various sizes. However, on busy days, it can become loud and crowded, which may slightly detract from the relaxed vibe.

Live cooking stations dining experience

Service is often described as friendly and helpful, with staff dedicated to providing guests with a pleasant experience. The team's attentiveness is particularly noted, especially when it comes to explaining the various stations to new guests or accommodating special requests. However, during peak times, there have been some criticisms regarding organization—some guests report long wait times or inadequately replenished dishes. Cleanliness, especially in the restroom areas, is occasionally mentioned as a concern, but this does not dominate the overall impression. The restaurant also offers a takeaway service as well as catering for external events, highlighting its flexibility.

Very tasty the food. A lots of drinks included. Spicy and not spicy food, the only problem for me it was the caraway seeds on too many dishes.

Shahi Masala is nicely refurbished, however, the Prayer Room, toilets and cutlery need to be upscaled... the music was very loud, we could barely hear each other... on the positive there is lots of car parking spaces, food is nice and drinks are bottomless... the price is ONLY £22 per adult...

For a buffet it is pretty satisfactory. You have a festival of choice and drinks (fizzy) are included. The food was okay, nothing to rave home about. After the first plate I became pretty full despite not loading a lot onto it. My guess is they probably add a few ingredients to make you feel fuller. I was looking forward to the chocolate fountain but the marshmallows had been sitting out for a while and were stale. Was not a fan. As I don’t go to buffets often and tend to stick to restaurants maybe this is a reason for the low review but I most likely will not go again.

Very good ambience, food is yummy, delicious, large variety of food, good desserts, mango lassi also is served. Masala Dosa is good but no sambhar and chutney which is important. Salad options are good.

This place has a variety of dishes but as I and my daughter were going for our main course, We happened to see this woman put back rice from her plate back into the food warmer using her bare hands!!! We were speechless and put off to eat again and left. Very poor hygiene, and staff don't seem to be bothered. I would never go back to this place.

Overall was a good night out with my family. Friendly staff, food was nice , drinks included in the buffet on tap which was lovely. The only thing I don’t understand is, why were we , a group of seven given a six seater table with an extra chair at the end of the table, when there were 8 seater tables available ????

Generally the place is great, but some food needs improvement for example in the desserts, the jelly's texture is always quite hard and the ice cream should have more variety rather than the just one flavour.
